The question from originalnine109 on Reddit:
"Question regarding trading and MBD. I was recently playing a game where one player had MBD, I had no bunnies, and the third had a number of uninfected bunnies. I initiated a trade with the MBD player for a bunny, so I gained one of his infected bunnies. I then played bunny exchange and swapped my single infected bunny with two bunnies from the uninfected player. My question is are all of our bunnies now infected? Or will the two I gained remain uninfected since the bunny exchange left me with no bunnies in play prior to gaining the two uninfected ones"
My answer:
"This is an excellent question. There are 2 potential ways we can view this. The first is to view it based on infected players, the 2nd is to view it based on infected bunnies.
Perspective 1: The player is infected with MBD until he gets rid of all his bunnies. As the bunnies are exchanged at the same instant, there is no instance where the player has removed all of his bunnies. This would mean that the player's new 2 bunnies will be infected. The player's previous 1 bunny also remains infected, thereby causing the other opponent to become infected.
Perspective 2: We consider a bunny to be infected by being owned by a player who has an infected bunny. From this perspective, when the exchange occurs there is no instant where the player owns both the 2 bunnies from the opponent and his 1 infected bunny, so the new 2 bunnies do not get infected. Therefore, only the opponent receiving the infected bunny gets infected from this perspective.
In order to determine which perspective makes the most mechanical sense, I'd like to consider 2 related interactions.
First, Ambassador Bunny's interaction with MBD. Since MBD is based on ownership (which tends to be equivalent to position, but not technically), an Ambassador bunny will become infected when it's owner's bunnies are infected, but it will not infect the area of the bunny circle that he is in because the opponent does not own Ambassador bunny. (This clarification doesn't necessarily make sense thematically, but is required to exist mechanically). This might suggest leaning towards perspective 1.
Second, Pink Circle Specials such as The Minilith. If the player has The Minilith saved with only one bunny, then plays bunny exchange, we would naturally assume that the player would be able to keep The Minilith since there isn't an instant where the player doesn't have a bunny. This works by the logic used in Perspective 1. Recognizing the the terminology used in MBD is very similar to what's used in Pink Circle Specials, this might also suggest leaning towards perspective 1.
Thus, I lean towards clarifying that both players become infected, but I can certainly understand how one would reach Perspective 2 as their conclusion and wouldn't disagree with it if it were directly clarified as such. Until that clarification happens, I suggest Perspective 1 is the safest assumption."
