I play with a specific person who rarely will announce that he is playing a card, but rather just put it in the natural position you would expect it to go if it was being played. This usually works just fine, but then there are cards that are completely broken with this play-style. For example, I was once playing a 4 player game. The silent player had The Conch in his hand and played it instead of playing the top run. I happened to notice so was fine, but the other 2 players did not. There also happened to be an extra person in the room having a conversation with these other 2 players. You can guess the rest. The 2 players lost all carrots, zodiacs, and mysterious places and forfeited 20 turns each (that was the merciful decision and was actually less than the number of words used). Did I mention O.R.P. was on the board and thus was able to wreck havoc on the 2 players now that they no longer had their zodiacs? So naturally, the question comes up of if this is legal. Is a player required to announce what they are playing, or can they just lay down or move cards to the natural position of where they would play them? Knowing the silent player, I doubt he will ever announce the cards that he plays, but for other Killer Bunnies players, this discussion could avoid the OP Conch usage.

It sounds like the players need to pay closer attention and be better sports about playing. Would a reasonable person capture the King in Chess without saying "Check"? I'd hope not. But, if that's the kind of cut-throat games you and your friends play, so be it as long as all of you understand that. I don't think anything illegal was done.
