Clarification on establishing a bunny triplet

The Blue Bunny bits state:

If the Bunny Triplet is established with the first card of a player’s turn, then the player may play a second card during the same turn.

Does that mean that the first card has to be the bunny that completes a triplet? What if that top card is Supplies Surprise, which results in you getting a bunny and completing a triplet? Can you then play a second card during that same turn?

No, that's the wrong inference. During a player's turn, if a "triplet is established" (doesn't matter how, doesn't have to be a Bunny Triplet, but could be a Zodiac Triplet, pawn purchase, etc.), then immediately the player can start playing two cards per turn by playing an additional card.

So, to your last question, yes, a player can then play a second card during that same turn.

Then why have the line "with the first card"? Why not just say, "If the Bunny Triplet is established during a player's turn, then they may play a second card during that same turn."

You'll have to ask Jeff. I didn't write it. I am only trying to explain what was written since it seemed to be confusing to you.

I appreciate it. We've always played it that if you can establish the triplet with the first card in some way (either you flip a bunny, or you win a bunny with Supplies Surprise, etc.) then you're good to play a second. But if you trade a bunny or use a saved Run Transformer or something, then it doesn't count. But I'm now thinking that this is probably too literal of an interpretation.
