Im excited. I ordered th blue/starter set plus red expansion. Par of it is a Father day gift from my wife. My daughter and I love Killer Bunnies. From what Ive read and seen it looks like fun. Looks like the original game plus the new feature of the space part. Any thought on this? Im hoping my 7 yr old will be able to play fine. She plays the quest and conquest great.

She'll be able to play fine, but you should know that it is more complex. And it takes a lot longer to play a game. Quest and Conquest are for more casual gamers, in my opinion. A lot of my friends who enjoy Quest didn't like J2J because it was too strategic. Maybe a few others players can weigh in.

Can it be like Quest/Conquest where you can use th amount of carrots you want? So that the game ma go faster? In Quest we pick a set amount of carrots. FOr a quick 30 min game we will pick 4-5 carrots

There are actually multiple ways to make the game go faster and shorter, and they're all listen in the rules, which is nice. However, it's still a longer game in general.

When we've played, it has been about twice as long. Our first game was about 7 hours, though that included dinner. the problem was that one of the players played a card that "froze" a carrot marker for something like 6 rounds, so it was impossible to shorten the game once that happened (I do not remember which card it was).

With the starter box, listed in the rules section are 5 dark grey boxes titled DECISION TIME. If you pick all the quickie options, the game will go very quickly. Here they are for your perusal.
DECISION TIME A: HOW MANY CARROTS Quickie: 4 Casual: 6 Tournament: 8 Full: 10 (added to include carrots 9 and 10 from the red booster.)
DECISION TIME B: HOW TO PLACE THE CARROTS Quickie: Place one carrot marker each on the random location spaces Asteroid Cavern, Comet Shelley, Mars and Space Station Dish. If placing more than 4, take turns to place them on other random location spaces. Casual: Take turns placing them on any open hex space (ie containing only space and stars.) Tournament: Use the co-ordinate system to place the carrots.
DECISION TIME C: THE SEVEN-CARD DEAL Quickie: Give every player a bunny. Give every player a ship. Reshuffle the deck and deal each player 5 more cards. Casual: Deal each player 7 cards. Any player may throw away their hand and draw a fresh 7 card hand. Tournament: Deal each player 7 cards.
DECISION TIME D: HOMESTRETCH (begins once the last unclaimed carrot marker has been placed on a ship.) Quickie: The game ends when the last carrot marker is claimed. Casual: All movement rolls for ships are doubled. The game ends when the last carrot marker is returned to Jupiter. Tournament: No change in game play. The game ends when the last carrot marker is returned to Jupiter.
DECISION TIME E: DETERMINING THE WINNER Quickie: Points a) 1 point per bunny b) 2 points for each ship in space c) 1 point for each carrot marker still in a ship d) 2 points for each large carrot card Casual: Points a) 1 point per large carrot card b) 3 points instead of one point for the magic carrot Tournament: The Magic Carrot wins.
If you want an even quicker game, append these extra house rule decision time sections.
DECISION TIME A1: WHAT SIZE IS THE BOARD? Quickie: Use only the base game board. Casual/Tournament: Use the red expansion board aswell.
DECISION TIME A2: WHEN DO THE PLANETS MOVE? Quickie: Only move the planets each time carrot markers are delivered to Jupiter (Jupiter moves D12, Mars moves D8, Earth moves D6.) Casual: Only moves the planet when a player launches a new ship. Tournament: Move the planets once each round.
DECISION TIME A3: PREPARE THE DECK Quickie: Remove all feed the bunny (not sustain the bunny) and ground (not ship) weapons from the deck. Place these cards back in the box and reshuffle the deck. These cards will not be used. Casual/Tournament: Use all cards.
It is worth noting that you can pick and choose from any category in terms of how you play the game. This means there are many possible ways to play. For the fastest, simplest game, just choose all the Quickie options and your game will be over very quickly.

So unlike the quest games, there arent many 30 minute games? Ours haven't been, but we also tend to play with the maximum 6 players (and sometimes beyond the recommended at 8). Fewer players will probably make the game go faster too.

We find that 4-5 players gives the right balance of quality and efficiency when it comes to this game. You needs 3+ to show the game's magic really.

Agreed. I played with one other person once and they really didn't like it.
