So am I correct in assuming that Age of Aquarius is essentially the same power as a rank in Quest?
If so, that leads me to another question. How are ships treated? According the rules ships may only be played from your hand if you launch that turn or lost. However if AoA is essentially like the rank cards, than you can play special cards directly to the table to save.
So can you play a ship from your hand to save it to the side if you have AoA saved?

Yes, it is basically the same power as the rank cards from Quest.
If this follows the same rules as the ranks in Quest, then the extra card you play can be saved if it is a Special card.

that's the conclusion we came to after a contentious discussion, but what that leaves me with is that JB assumes that people who play J2J also play Quest because some of the cards, while obviously being either holdovers or at least heavily borrowed from Quest lack as in depth explanations in the rules as they got in Quest.

Yes, the 'extra' card play from Aquarius may be used to save a Special or Very Special directly from your hand.
