Clarification on Transcendental Staff with Beyea Aug 5, 2011 16:38:35 GMT -5

The Transcendental Staff card says,

May be used once by a player to either eliminate any Ground or Ship Weapon, all independent Beyea Aliens...

What does "independent" mean in this context? Does that mean that I can only eliminate one Beyea ship? Or can I eliminate all Beyea ships in play?

I believe that the word "independent" means that the card will not eliminate the Beyea aliens that are in a players hand or run cycle.
