I'm trying to make my own cards in gimp and i don't know how to make the card title. Can anyone help me? Are you a beginner at GIMP (only using it for this?) or do you have some experience (maybe slightly past beginner, and have edited images with GIMP previously)? Do you have the Enviro font? Are you looking for a "close enough" way, or a really exacting method?

thanks. and another question, i havent figured out how to fill the background with gradients because the bucket tool doesn't fill with gradients, it just does patterns. any suggestions would be helpful thanks

Seriously? You're attempting a P-card as your first fan card?
Equally seriously, I have no idea how to do that in GIMP. Even in Inkscape (which I use regularly), it took me quite a few tries to figure out how to do it.
Maybe try something a little less challenging until you're more familiar with the tools?

its not that bad really, all you need is a layer with 'p p p p p p p p' etc centred and adjusted to mimic the original cards, should be able to get it with a bit of trial and error without too much hassle...

It isn't quite that simple. The P's all have a gradient applied so the color varies spatially (vertically or horizontally). The color underneath has the opposite gradient. As far as I can tell, it requires the use of masks and some other intermediate skills.

Well I've not used GIMP or inkscape to do this specifically as yet so can't really comment, but it is pretty simple in mx fireworks...

I've just been back and checked exactly how I'd done it, I'd done all of the first set in fireworks (before discovering inkscape) and I'm just in the process of re-doing my card templates for inkscape now (but haven't got round to replicating the P Card in this yet) In fireworks, the controls around text are a lot more precise and it allows you to play with the spacing of letters, kerning etc than in my version of photoshop.. So in order to do the P layer all I'd done was to produce a text layer that says P P P P etc, (using Arial Font, stretched to 122%) and then played round with it so as to make sure that the letters don't cut off and look strange around the borders etc. To colour it i've then selected a gradient across the text (which again, I can't do in photoshop without flattening layers and applying colour filters etc..) The end result is not too bad, but not perfect, I wasn't aware at the time of the different cards utilising different gradients (vertical/diagonal/horizontal) and as a result the gradient is the wrong way on this one, plus the font isn't exactly right.. I've converted it to a photoshop file and attached here db.tt/E9683IQ if any use (although this destroys the editability of the text...) I'm working on some new ideas at the moment, which I'll zap through once i'm a bit further on. .
