I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread here for J2J questions sent to Jeff. I'll start with the questions I sent to him:
Hmmmm, good question. I had to look this up. Technically, you play the card from your hand, then launch the ship. Finally, you replace the card. If the card drawn kills a bunny on the ground, then no problem, your bunny launched. If it kills a bunny in space and it’s the only bunny in your ship, then the ship stays in space and waits for a new bunny pilot to arrive.
Yes, they do.
No they go right up to the ship and kill it (one shot).

I think you need to be careful about encouraging folks to email JB and "collect the responses" here. There has been bad blood between MC.com and JB. See this thread and this thread. People have criticized JB for inconsistent answers to these sorts of questions, and then other people would ask him about the contradictions, which pissed him off (among other reasons, because his email volume skyrocketed), and he eventually cut off contact with this forum. One reason the "Rules Encyclopedia" and now the "Card Compendium" exists is to be a collection of the rules and fan-based clarifications of those rules. Perhaps it is a good time to start a "Card Compendium" for Journey to Jupiter?

Good point. I wasn't encouraging everyone to start bombarding JB with questions. However, there is a page on their website which gives you an email address to send rules questions to. It is reasonable to assume that people will use it (otherwise, why put it there?). I had a few questions, so I sent them to him. I thought I would share the response since other players might be interested (and thus reduce his email volume).
A card compendium for J2J would be great. Maybe I'll start working on it this week.

My response to the 'bad blood' comment is that 'it is a long story' and best left buried. It dealt with a very small number of individuals and not by any means the forum in general. As far as questions go, by all means send them along. Although I will warn you that for the folks who have lots of questions (and you know who you are), maybe a phone call would be quicker. I don't type very fast. I try to get to email in 'good time'. And I have been working on the consistency of my answers. I hope that helps clear things up... a little. JB

I would not get too tied up in ground play vs space play as this appears to be primarily a teaching mechanic and not a game mechanic. The card played gets resolved, and then ship movement occurs. Some cards effect things on the ground and some cards effect things in space. The issue with launching a ship (special card) directly from the hand is that the resolution of this card IS a ship movement. The card needs to be resolved before it is replaced. Thus the ship is launched before the terrible misfortune occurs. Otherwise if a player's bunny got killed by a terrible misfortune the ship would not be able to be launched [glow=red,2,300]NOR[/glow] would it be able to be saved.
