What exactly is the Concher allowed to do? When we firsted played it, the Concher (person playing the Conch) was able to take anything they wanted. How do you all play?

I don't believe the Conch was intended to let its player break the rules, but rather just to prevent other players from making trades/exchanges.

Oh...I see...when we played we took the literal explanation of the card as in you could trade everything for nothing...but I think we'll play that way now...its not as stressful.

and to ensure no one speaks, we make a penalty for a person caught speaking as they have to return a bunny or a carrot for each such offense.

From the official site:
The Conch effectively stops all trades of both SUPPLIES and DOWNS for two full rounds of play unless initiated by the player holding the card. But we are also very serious about the silence. A player who speaks must return a Carrot, or discard a Zodiac (Green Booster Deck) or Mysterious Place (Onyx Booster Deck) cards for each word spoken. Players without objects will forfeit turns of play.

But in theory couldn't you could trade nothing for something, or if that doesn't work, the anti-matter counterpart (which effectively is not there in any physical sense, but is still...physically there, if you get what I'm saying)?

In theory, yes. But that is pretty munchkinly (and that's a different game).

A different, and FAR inferior game in my opinion . One of my gaming buddies has brought this game a couple of time, I dispise it.

There, I fixed my English . Munchkinly referrs to the game Munchkin, which I assume is no better than the horrible game Munchkin-Fu that I have had the misfortune of playing on 2 occasions. It was terrible both times. I hope my gaming group never breaks this one out again. I would much rather play KB or Bohnanza if somebody wants to play a card game. Even Pit or Mille Bourne are preferrable.

Actually, the term "munchkin" is older than the game of that name. A "munchkin" is a power gamer; someone who bends/breaks rules to their own benefit; someone who cares more about stats and being "uber" than actually roleplaying and having fun.

Ah, I see. How in the world did that become what it ment? Aren't munchikins the people with the lollypops and high voices?

Well, the term has been around for a long time... Even before it got widespread use in gaming/roleplaying it was a term used in hacking. There, it referred to juvenille hackers who engaged in senseless malicious acts purely as a display of their ability. This was distinguished from the "standard" hacker who viewed the excercise as an intellectual challenge to find weak points in security or exploit badly designed systems.

Wow, I never heard that use of the word either. And I have read alot of the hacker books, the supposed "history" types, the ones that make some of them out to seem like the worst villians to walk the earth . Munchkin was probably too nice a word for them to use . I just assumed it meant the game .
